Under DefeatSTORY / GAMEPLAY
The story takes place somewhere in the future and your main purpose as a combat pilot is to fly an advanced combat chopper (that looks and shoots much like an updated version of the classic Apache AH-64) and blow the hell out of numerous enemies that threaten your people, your country and yourself, with every projectile you can carry. So, you just take off and start causing chaos. The gameplay is quite classic and reminds us of numerous top down shoot 'em up games of the past, i.e. like the SNK's Aero Fighters series. But this game has a quite unique for the genre feature: You can also shoot the enemies from a diagonal angle (to the right or to the left respectively). You can also lock your chopper's aiming by turning its nose diagonally and holding the fire button pressed. The game's main screen is swarmed by enemy squadrons, tanks of all sizes and firepower, battleships and ground air defense systems. Upon destroying everything in your path, you can grab upgrades (weapons, energy etc) to further strengthen your chopper. At the end of each level there's a big boss waiting to put an end to your efforts!

GRAPHICS / SOUND
Under Defeat is one of the best shoot 'em up games to ever grace the Sega Dreamcast library. The active screen may be quite small (compared to other shooters) but the action is so intense when it gets overwhelmed by numerous flying enemies plus their ground and naval forces with no frame rate drops at all (this is Dreamcast, remember?) Each and every explosion, bombing and background is done with some great visual effects and vivid colors. As for the sound, Under Defeat is what a decent shooter should be, featuring intense soundtracks and an abundance of stereophonic sound effects that complete its whole great shooting package!
